How Will We Survive?

During summertime, schools close and  amusement parks, pools, and other outdoor activities take the forefront. The anticipation of the first roller coaster ride of the season, with the thrill of its speed as it dips and curves and drops, brings an adrenaline rush and feelings of queasiness and fear all at the same time. So many changing emotions in under 2 minutes!

Change is always constant. It can come when you least expect it or on a schedule that can be, nevertheless, unsettling. Shaking up the status quo may not be pleasant but it should, if nothing else, keep us on our toes. The last 10 months of change can be likened to a rollercoaster ride;   new board members vowed to bring transparency, financial stability and calm to our community have been elected, only to renege on those campaign promises straight out the gate. From having executive committee elections without the full board present, to not posting monthly board meeting minutes in a timely manner, to removing Metro Management and rehiring Prestige Management at a considerably higher annual cost and, more recently, removing two board members and replacing them with a shareholder who did not run in the last election and a former board member who was removed from the board for cause (based on our bylaws). They have taken us on a ride of uncertainty.

We have to stay on top of what is happening in our complex. One way to keep abreast of things is to attend the Board of Directors meetings which occur the first and third Tuesday of every month. It is crucial now more than ever that we work together to ensure that Esplanade’s future is secure. We do not have to like one another to work together.

…removing our property manager then rehiring our former managing agent at a considerably higher annual cost…

Our common goal is to make sure that our homes are a healthy, safe, and affordable place for all to live. Developers have had Esplanade in their crosshairs for years, however, in no other time have the dangers of a takeover of our property been more possible. The alarming amount of arrears in this complex make us very vulnerableWithout the money from our monthly maintenance payments, we cannot meet our monthly operating expenses. We have far too much to lose so we must stop letting emotions get in the way, stop taking sides and realize that the only side we must be on is that which will bring us financial stability.  We must learn to work together. We all have something to contribute from different perspectives and experiences which can benefit the entire community.  A divided house is bound to fall, but a house of unity and cooperation will stand strong and survive every obstacle.

EG, it’s time to agree to disagree–let’s start working together to keep our homes from ruin.
