With summer coming to an end, it is time to fall back into step with all things Esplanade. Recent months here have unveiled an incredible amount of change; we have elected new members to the Board of Directors, and they have made changes to the property management team. With this shift in leadership, it is imperative that we pause and reflect on the direction in which Esplanade is moving.
Over the past several years, the Capital Improvement Project has brought about massive renovations and given Esplanade a much deserved facelift. Common areas like the lobbies, community rooms and laundry have all been updated to modernize the complex and usher us into the future. Despite a few setbacks, Esplanade is certainly on the upswing; although the construction of the pool was not completed in time for this summer, its upgrades promise to last for decades. With all of this in mind, it begs the question – who are we as a community in 2023?
As shareholders, we want to disrupt the system and reclaim our place as shakers, movers, and doers. To ensure that our leadership is a direct reflection of our community, we must continue to participate in the various committees and attend Board meetings. This way, we can hold our governing bodies accountable and prioritize transparency above all else. In doing so, we will be able to unify and mobilize ourselves in a way like never before.
We were once affectionately known as the ‘Jewel of Harlem,’ and it’s easy to see why – the rich familial bonds in this complex speak volumes and allude to our great potential for intergenerational wealth in this community. It is my hope that we can continue to learn from one another, and uplift Esplanade in the process.
