A Refresher from Our Security Committee

Security is an especially important aspect of living here at Esplanade Gardens. Our homes require a certain level of security to ensure the safety of all residents. In this article, the security committee will discuss some of the measures taken to ensure residents are safe and secure.

Access control is one of the most important aspects of Esplanade’s security. It’s Important to have a system in place to verify the identity of visitors and residents preventing unauthorized entry. Some common measures include key fobs, security cameras, and security personnel. Distribution of our new key fobs, scheduled to have begun in May, have been delayed. Security cameras are an essential tool for monitoring communal areas and ensuring that there are no unauthorized individuals in the building. The presence of cameras alone can deter potential criminals from attempting to gain entry. In addition, safety personnel can monitor these cameras to respond quickly to any incidents. Hiring security personnel is another common measure employed by co-ops. Security personnel provide a visible presence to deter loitering and trespassing. They can also monitor security cameras and respond to any incidents that may arise. Our current security personnel, Esteem Security Services Inc., provides 3 levels of security guard services: unarmed uniformed guards, concierge guards trained to welcome visitors, and special licensed guards who perform specialized tasks such as fire safety. Another way to increase security in co-ops is by implementing a neighborhood watch program. This program involves residents taking responsibility for the safety and security of their community. Co-ops can organize meetings to educate residents on what to look for and how to report suspicious activity.

Finally, having a security committee in place, like we have at Esplanade Gardens, is a valuable resource. This committee can work with management to develop security protocols based on the unique needs of the co-op. They can also educate residents on safety measures and communicate any changes to the security policies. Find out more about our security committee meeting on the 2nd Wednesday of each month in Building 3, North Community Room. In summary, Co-ops should take measures such as access control, security cameras, security personnel, neighborhood watch programs, and security committees to ensure the safety of their residents. With these measures in place, we can feel more comfortable in our homes. What are your security questions, comments and/or concerns? Let us know at: EGGazette@gmail.com.
